Although this tour is in Slovakia you will quickly realize that Hungary has more influence on this region than just being on the southern bank of the Danube. For many Slovak towns along the winding Danube river, Hungarian is the language of choice with a large ethnic Hungarian population. Start in the capital city of Bratislava, the site of a Neolithic settlement 5000 years ago. Traveling along the Danube river as it meanders through the landscape you will come across many confluences with other rivers and quite a few spa towns have been established due to the mineral rich waters in the area. This is a good area for bird watching as you follow the river bank. The Gabcikovo waterworks is an interesting point along the way.
